Riverlore: Where Lore Runs Deeper Than History

As evening settles over Hannibal, this guided walking tour invites you into the town’s more mysterious and scandalous past. Strolling along historic Main Street, you’ll uncover stories that linger just beneath the surface, where truth and shadow quietly intertwine as we present ‘the other side’ of Hannibal.

This journey leads to the Laura Hawkins House, the final residence of the woman who inspired Mark Twain’s Becky Thatcher. Within these walls, guests will engage in a self-guided paranormal investigation, using provided dowsing rods to explore what may, still, remain.

 

A Word of Warning About This Tour
• This tour is rooted in authentic historical accounts and does not include staged frights, theatrical effects, or fictionalized storytelling. When it comes to the truth about Hannibal’s past, no embellishment is needed.

• Due to some graphic content and mature themes, we do not permit children ages 12 and under. 

• Some historical accounts discussed may be unsettling for certain guests and could result in lingering emotional reactions. Discretion is advised.

• The tour includes a visit to the Laura Hawkins House, where Laura Hawkins passed away in an upstairs bedroom. The home has been described by some as “haunted,” though we invite you to draw your own conclusions.

Please Note: Paranormal investigations are exclusive to the Riverlore experience and are not offered during regular Laura Hawkins House hours or to general guests.

If proper identification is not presented at check-in, full price will be charged. Please note that these are the only accepted forms of identification.
• All ticket sales close 24 hours prior to the tour.
• Walk-ins are welcome at any time but subject to availability.

All ticket sales are final and non-refundable once purchase is complete.
However, if Hannibal Expeditions Tour Agency cancels a tour in its entirety, guests will receive a full refund.
